the mininum content required to restart a process where it left off before getting interrupted by another process, is the information that needs to be saved through PCB which essentially contains things mentioned clearly in the definition of Process Control Block@wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Process_control_block ....hope this helps.

I think it might also depend on the underlying Architecture and the implementation details. For example, for SPARCv8, the registers like PC, nPC, PSR, CWP etc might be saved and so on.
