hash to keep track of the references to the nodes. any one have another solution to this? i know using a hash is usually a 2nd rate solution to most interview problems, but its the only one I can think of at this point.

Using two pointer racing: slowPt and fastPt (move 02 elements at a time)

the two pointer racing would not work as the complexity will be greater than O(n)

I think it would work. In worst case the fastPt runs 2 times (O(2n) and the slow pointer 1 time (O(n)). The overall complexity would be O(3n). In big-O that means O(3n) == O(n).
