It can not be for std::suto_ptr. The precise reason is that, STL requires the objects' to be stored into container should be (1) Assignable and (2) Copy constructible. However std::auto_ptr() does not have these.
Hence it can not be put into a container.

no, we cannot have containers of std::auto_ptr

The reason is that the elements in containers need to have the property for assignment that when assignment happens, the lefthand side and righthand side need to be equal. If you use auto_ptr for this property, it is not satisfied.

Auto_ptr overloads the assignment operators generally .
