Remember if the const is to the right of * then the address remains constant;
When the const is on the left of * then the contents to which pointer points remains constant

const char *a; //the value of the char is const, not allowed to change value
*a = 'F'; //illegal: change the const char value
a = "Hi"; // legal

char* const a; //the addr of the char is const, not allowed to change addr
*a = 'F'; //legal
a ="HI"; //illegal, change the addr that's supposed to be const.

Well I have a doubt that if string literals are stored in ROM then could these assignment be legal (in line 2).

char* const a="spirit"; //the addr of the char is const, not allowed to change addr
*a ='t'; // line 2 possibly illegal assignment
