For CPU monitoring:
- Anonymous April 27, 2017Transport the perf counter data such as CPU time into a searchable store such as elastic search etc.
The perf data should be identified by various dimensions such as service instance, data center etc so the various counters can be aggregated by these dimensions.
A monitoring job will periodically (period is dependent on the time to detect) look back at the perf data stored in the previous time period. If the CPU time for the aggregated data (example a particular service instance) is over a threshold then an alert will be fired to email or an alerting system.
A similar design can be used for other perf counter data.
