Good one, +1. Other than rope, other data structures I can think can be useful are: 1) stack for undo operations 2). NFA for 'find and replace' functionality etc

What features of a Text editor are expected? Copy/Paste, Insert/Delete characters etc? How about a simple LinkedList for this?

I think double link list can be a good implementation.copy,paste,search,insert everything can be done.
