In c++ inheritence means derived class inherits base class. In c what inheritence feature was interviewer expecting..?

Compile error while down casting, "cannot convert from 'derived *' to 'derived'"

struct derived derived_ptr = (struct derived *)base_ptr; // downcast

Correct:
struct derived *derived_ptr = (struct derived *)base_ptr; // downcast

C doesn't support inheritance.
