@nanhi: I count 3 differences in the above. They're most likely counting a difference as str[i] != str1[i]. In your above example str[0] doesn't match, str[1] doesn't match, and str[4] doesn't match.
@OP:
I don't think your function works when the strings are different sizes, yet still only differ by 1 character, take the following example:
There is only 1 character difference (the last char), but it will not be found because it will get skipped due to the size difference.
