- 3 Answers what should I do to resolve this?
When I was interviewed with my current company right now, they said it is going to be both front-end and back-end. But today when I attended the orientation, they changed it to be more focused on front-end. Basically just build company's website and fix some bugs. But based on my situation, I want to have a job more focused on back=end. What should I do? The program languages they use are CSS, HTML5, JAVASCRIPT... But I am more interested in building some software using JAVA, C, C++ etc

Hi Guys,
- Sylar May 17, 2012
I have 2 yrs of strong development experience.
Now, I have got one offer from Microsoft for the SDET role, and another one from Adobe Systems for development role.
Considering compensation and brand value MS SDET offer is tempting but Adobe offers quality dev work. In Adobe i'm pretty clear of the work and role. Also it's bit difficult for me to move from dev to test position.
Any suggestions as in what opportunity shall i consider for a better career growth?

Hi Mrs Gayle:
- nobody May 16, 2012
Got a summer intern as SDET in Microsoft headquarter. My first choice is Bing search SDE but none of the team or title is matched. Manager gave me the offer in face and I accepted it and I have enough confidence to get return offer (85 percent). My concern is:
1. Can I switch to SDE(bing core search) after intern. SDET is surely not the career I want. I don't mind to have a full round interview for Bing core search SDE position after intern like an outsider.
2. What kind of job a SDET intern in Microsoft do? (Actually, SDET intern interview is harder than many SDE intern in other comp, and I need Microsoft on my resume to knock the door of Google or Facebook. I'm from a "nobody know" university, so I choose Microsoft)
3. When finding a new full time job, can I just write the title as "Software engineering intern"? (Dev role is the choice in my mind)
4. Microsoft is my dream company but I really don't have passion on SDET. As an international student, I need to consider many many things like stable, salary, credibility, career path, and green card policy, I can't take any risk to lose my legal status. ---------- So, Will asking to re-interview after summer heart the feeling of my current team? Will Microsoft allowed me to re-interview with the team and role I'm passion about? (Give me an interview opportunity and I'll get it, I did 500+ algorithm problem on various source). What about under worst situation, accept the return offer as a safe belt (Great probability of future renege, I don't want to do that, but it's safe)?

Hi,
- Anonymous May 15, 2012
I had two phone screens with LinkedIn for a software engineer position. It has been almost two weeks since my second interview, and I've heard nothing back. I tried emailing/calling the recruiter, no response.
I was wondering if anyone has a similar interview experience with LinkedIn. Is this a common behavior? Do they never reply back if you are rejected? If so, it is pretty bad and unprofessional...| Flag | PURGE - 4 Answers Adobe Software Engineer Profile for White Box Testing

Thanks| Flag | PURGE - 1 Answer Hi, I have a general question....
Hi, I have a general question. Does the median of medians algo really work for finding median of an unsorted big array? E.g. take 1 2 5, 3 4 6, 7 8 9: medians are 2, 4, 8. Median of medians is 4 but overall median is 5.
- Hill Billy May 13, 2012
Another example,
we have 45 distinct numbers divided to 9 group with 5 elements.
48 43 38 33 28 23 18 13 8
49 44 39 34 29 24 19 14 9
50 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10
51 46 41 36 31 26 21 16 53
52 47 42 37 32 27 22 17 54
The first step is sorting every group (in this case they are already sorted)
Second step recursively, find the "true" median of the medians (50 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10) i.e. the set will be divided into 2 groups:
50 25
45 20
40 15
35 10
30
sorting this 2 groups
30 10
35 15
40 20
45 25
50
the medians is 40 and 15 (in case the numbers are even we took left median) so the returned value is 15 however "true" median of medians (50 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10) is 30.
Please explain what am I missing? I have read at many places that median of medians algo doesnt work. If it does can you explain above and also give a good reference to read for the algo?| Flag | PURGE - 3 Answers I am computer engg. student. I...

I had an interview with Google on this Friday. I had 4 rounds. I did 2 rounds really well and one was ok. The 4th one was tough - i was asked a dynamic programming question and I couldn't progress much with it. All i was able to say was this is a dynamic programming problem and recursion shouldn't be used to solve as it involves overlapping subproblems. The interviewer changed the question seeing that I am not progressing much. I was able to complete the second question and was able to write a working code with one bug which the interviewer made me correct. has anyone come across such situation and how do interviewers rate candidates in such scenarios?
