The 5th edition is pretty different.
- Gayle L McDowell February 14, 2013It was a complete rewrite and includes 24 new problems (with some of the basic terminology questions removed). It's almost twice as long -- 500 pages vs. 300 pages. The solutions are much more expansive and correct, with many alternate solutions added. The introductory chapters (as well as the intro sections in each problem) were also expanded a lot.
If you look at the reviews on Amazon, you'll see that the reviews for the 5th edition are substantially better than the 4th edition (and you'll also note a number of people saying that it's worth buying the 5th edition even if you own the 4th edition).
