The simplest way is to go google, type "what is my ip", and click the first link. That will show the external ip of the nat server you are behind. Another way can be finding your ip address of your default gateway and try to log in with a browser.

The gateway address is mentioned in some file on Linux system.
Different gateway addresses for different sets of IP addresses are mentioned.

When the computer joins the network for the firsttime and does not have the routing table established.. the machine broadcast to all nodes and in return gets the gateway address. it is stored and thereafter used for further communication

Do a trace from the computer to any IP outside the network. It will show the gateway information.
Using IP chicken is good, only if you have web access. With build in trace, you don't need to worry about that :)

just use the tracert method to find out the external ip address
