What is a point query?
For search queries, One way is to use B-Trees, that will get the data by going through minimum disk I/O's... any better ideas?

If the data has some set of numbers that repeat very often, then we can have a hash table for it. for the remaining digits, we can have a BST. This will reduce the height of the BST and hence the value of log(n)

can't we use distributed file system ??? like Hadoop Distribued File System ... we can use parallel computing to achieve our goal in minimum possible time

The discussion here was to enable writing efficient queries. Hadoop does parallel processing but everything is done in batch processing mode. Haddop doesn't give instantaneous results.
