Let the average displacement per person be a cube with volume of 4m^3, with each side of the cube being the cube root of 4. Every time add a person we displace the water by 4m^3 but the only dimension of the pool that changes is the height, in other words the length (40m) and width (20m) remain constant. We can just equate the volume by saying 40*20*x = cubeRoot(4)^3, solve for x where x would be the increase in water level per displacement.
x = 4/800 = 1/200 meters per person, then for 50 people it is x*50 = 50/200 = 1/4 or 0.25m
