U can do it by using mark and sweep , tri coloring methods. I'm unsure about the implementation but it can be done in c also.
As we all know free can be used to deallocate dynamically allocated memory......

i dunno about release build an debug build but memory leaks are something like the memory locations that are not referred that is for example if a pointer is assigned an memory but after it is changed to some other reference then the previous memory that the pointer being referred is lost but not freed from the memory this is called memory leak.
