I made that first post on my phone and messed up the code format a little so here's a correction for that.
And now that I'm on a computer, I did a quick analysis on it and it isn't exactly uniform :( ...but it is pretty close.
- MikeC May 15, 2011I'm sure there's an easier way to do this but my stats skillz are really rusty so simply writing a program to brute force this was the quickest way for me. I just counted all of the possible permutations of 7 numbers between 1-5 to see if it was evenly distributed.
For example:
1+1+1+1+1+1+1 % 7 + 1 = 1
1+1+1+1+1+1+2 % 7 + 1 = 2
1+1+1+1+1+1+3 % 7 + 1 = 3
...
5+5+5+5+5+5+4 % 7 + 1 = 7
5+5+5+5+5+5+5 % 7 + 1 = 1
The final result showed that there were more permutations that sum up to 1 than any of the other numbers...but it is really close.

But hey...I make mistakes too so if I'm wrong, please call me out on it :)
