- Kiran April 23, 2010Shared pointers are reference counted. Assignment or copying increases the count and out of scope or delete reduces the count. When the count goes to 0, actual object is destroyed. All you go to do in a simple case is to maintain a counter which is incremented in constructors and decremented in destructors. If count goes to 0, delete the actual object. If a robust solution is needed Boost::shared_ptr is available.
